Grasshopper Hunting.

December 20, 2017 by amanda g

The trees are bare now. The ground covered in their brown leaves. There is a crispness in the air and the smell of cold hangs around all day. This is undoubtedly my favorite time of year. Fall just brings a breath of fresh air. The days are shorter but there is something I love about that. I don’t mind the early evenings and the sunsets that are completely magical. They have been unreal this fall. Maybe it’s just that we have seen so many at the land this year and that makes them that much more special but they have breathtaking.

Christmas is in a few days but this was one of my favorite evenings out at the land. Gray had been in a grasshopper catching slump until the day before this when he found a prime spot full of them. He asked me all day if we could go to the land so he could catch more. Olivia wanted to collect leaves so we could dip them in beeswax.

The sun was starting to set, it was getting cooler and they did not want to leave.

We stayed as long as we could and when it was time to leave I had to promise that we could come back the next day so he could catch more grasshoppers. These were some of the best evenings, watching them collect leaves and catch grasshoppers. It filled me with anticipation and visions of what our lives may look like next fall.
