Well, let’s see, we are a few weeks from moving in and I am finally posting an update on the build. The last one I posted was in July. Sounds about par for course with my blogging habits lately. I do post a lot on my Instagram stories though so if you follow along there then you have a pretty good idea of how far along we have come in this build and just how close we are to finally being finished!
We don’t have an exact move in date yet but we are hoping it’s sometime in the next few weeks, if not before Christmas then hopefully we will be spending the first few weeks of the New Year unpacking boxes, starting a new season of life in a new house that has been a our dream since we laid eyes on this land.
A LOT has happened since July as you can imagine. Driveways, landscaping, fences, the pool. The exterior looks completely different. The picture above is from last week. The next few are from throughout the summer. They started the pool late this summer and it still looks pretty much the same except they have laid all the decking and there aren’t huge piles of dirt and trash laying around. So I guess it doesn’t look pretty much the same after all. They are waiting to complete it until we are closer to the move in date.
The cabinets have been painted and all the countertops are in. I love an all white kitchen but I knew we needed a different color in there, something bold and something that wouldn’t show every little dirty fingerprint. The island was the perfect place to bring in this color.
The master bath is almost complete. They were just finishing up some tile in there today and we are waiting on the shower doors. So close. This is what the bathroom looked like a few months ago.
I love every part of this house but there are two rooms that may be my favorite. The laundry room and the school room. I could not wait to see this tile once it was all installed. I was in love with the tile once I saw the sample but seeing it all together, installed and just looking fabulous, I cannot wait to do laundry. I will gladly wash loads of dirty clothes in this room while looking out that window at the kids playing or the cows begging for more treats.
We went with cement tile from Cle Tile in the laundry, mudroom, powder room and the guest bath.
We carried this Old Chicago brick out onto the front porch and went with a herringbone pattern.
If there was a wallpaper that could bring joy to your life and calmness to your mind then this wallpaper would be it. I find myself just standing in the middle of this room and staring up at that ceiling. I am ready to fill the shelves with books, the floor with pillows and blankets and the cork boards with art work. Also, please note, we have floors, not concrete anymore.
The light fixtures are up, barn doors are hung, backsplashes and butcherblock countertops, cabinet hardware and BEAMS.
It’s crazy to think that we started this build over a year ago and that we purchased this land over two years ago. I found a picture from one of the first times we took the kids out to the land a few days ago and it brought tears to my eyes because they were so little and we have come so far in this journey.
Soon this place will be home and these evenings spent visiting the house, checking on progress, catching grasshoppers and watching the sunset while watching this dream turn into our reality won’t be lost on me. Grateful. We are so incredibly grateful.
I do plan on doing a detaile dpost with all of our resources linked once the house is complete. I get a lot of questions regarding where we purchased materials and who has worked on this project and I promise I will answer all of those for y’all. Please send me any questions that you may have!
