Mount Pilatus is a must if you are in Lucerne. There are many different ways to get up to the top which include a boat ride, cogwheel train, gondola, and cable cars, not in that particular order but I’ll admit I was a little overwhelmed when I started researching how to get there. So many options and there are various companies you can buy tickets through. Again, I recommend getting a Swiss Travel Pass because I believe you get a discount on tickets. Ultimately, we decided to drive our car (since we still had a rental) to the gondola station in Krien and take the gondola up to the area where there was a playground and hike around the mountain. We just bought a ticket to the first stop because we weren’t sure if we would make it all the way to the top.
A playground with a view, surrounded by trees and kids everywhere. They didn’t want to leave.
We eventually got them to leave this wonderful playground and we headed out on a nearby trail. I don’t remember which one it was but I do know that it was headed down the mountain to the gondola station where we started.
This was our view for the majority of the hike, not bad at all.
I am almost 100% sure we stayed on the correct trail the entire time but there were moments where I wasn’t sure, like when we walked up on people working in their yards or horses in barns.
But we eventually made it down the mountain and back to our car. It was a great way to end our time in Switzerland and it left us wanting more time. We headed out early the next morning to catch a flight to our next stop, London!
