It’s been a few weeks since I have posted an update on the house build and I figured it was about time. ALOT has happened. Once the plumbing and electrical was finished we waited around for a little while for inspections and then they started on the insulation, then the drywall. I knew that once the drywall went up the house would change once again but I didn’t understand the magnitude of just how much it would change. You can actually see the rooms. You walk through the halls and you can really envision what it’s going to feel like. I can see where the lights are going to be, the sunlight in the rooms at different times of the day. I can picture where I want the furniture and get a flow for the house. It’s amazing to see the process and how much it changes from day to day.
The kid’s school/game room might be my favorite room in the house so far. Once the walls went up and the skylights went in I could see just how much light was going to pour into that room and my imagination just went crazy with ideas. Natural light just makes me happy and envisioning teaching lessons in that room makes me excited to start schooling.
They also started on all the stone and brick work. We went with all white and while getting the layout and look we had envisioned right took some trial and error, we are happy with our decision. We want a modern farmhouse look so to get that we are using a lot of different textures and materials. We went with a black metal roof since we have the black steel doors and windows. The cedar on the house is going to be sealed so it retains it’s natural color, rather than staining it darker.
The roof is being put on and today the cabinets are being installed. Things are happening quickly now and it’s wonderful to go out there and spend time walking the site, talking about what goes where and what it will look like months from now while the kids are out playing and exploring their backyard.
